Life is a series of challenges, choices, and triumphs, each shaping us into who we are meant to be. My journey began at the age of 12, amidst the chaos of my parents’ divorce. It was during this time of upheaval that I started exploring my identity, wearing a mix of male and female clothing. I didn’t feel confined to being just “male” or “female” — I realized I was genderfluid.

This self-discovery wasn’t met with understanding. At school, teachers dismissed me, calling me “stupid,” “dumb,” and even an “asshole” simply because I was different. They told me I’d amount to nothing, but deep down, I refused to believe them. I clung to the thought: This is who I am. I can be whoever I want to be.

At 16, I mustered the courage to share my truth with my friends, coming out as genderfluid. It wasn’t easy, but it was liberating.

Fast forward ten years, and at 26, my life had evolved dramatically. As a single parent, I was juggling the demands of work and raising my family. My journey as a genderfluid individual continued, and I embraced it more fully, investing in clothing that reflected my identity — unisex and male styles that felt true to me.

Yet, living authentically came with its own set of challenges. I faced harassment, including death threats from colleagues and others in my community. The fear was palpable, so much so that I got a dog for protection. Still, I persisted because I knew living truthfully was worth it.

Today, I am a proud parent to seven wonderful children — five daughters, two sons, and one adopted child who is trans. My family is my greatest source of joy and strength. I live as my authentic self, a genderfluid mother surrounded by love, laughter, and acceptance.

If you’re considering embracing your identity or transitioning, my advice is simple: Don’t be afraid. Take that leap of faith. You never know what beauty and fulfillment await on the other side of fear.

My journey has brought me to a life that’s richer than I could have imagined. I am not only loved by my children and grandchildren but also cherished by my wife, the love of my life. Together, we’ve built a home filled with understanding, acceptance, and joy.

Living authentically isn’t without its challenges, but it is profoundly rewarding. The world needs your unique light. Step into it boldly, for you are enough just as you are.

To anyone on a journey of self-discovery: You’ve got this.
